A lot has been happening in the world of the drum group. We have changed our name from TEMPO to the name DRUMATIK! We felt that the name Tempo sounded a bit too classical and sedate, and the group is certainly not that! DRUMATIK! Definitely describes how the group is now……….. loud, meaty and dramatic. We have also changed the location of the group and the time that we meet. We have left Tower House because the room was becoming far too small for the group. We are now meeting at a recording studio called SUB STATION in Rosyth. This is an ideal place for us…….. it has a bigger room, better access and a great atmosphere. The owner is very well connected in the Scottish music industry, as well as being well connected to the local community, and will be a good person to know as we are trying to create stronger links with the people in Rosyth and the area around Rosyth. We will meet at SUB STATION on Wednesday afternoons from 1 – 3 pm. Within the next few weeks I will be restarting the night class drumming group that was so successful at Tower House. The group ran for 6 weeks and consisted of 2 service users of WFCSS and 10 members of the public. I am hoping that the group at SUB STATION will be just as successful.

This summer will see DRUMATIK! On "tour". I have been e-mailing, telephoning and generally harassing civic week and festival organisers for weeks, asking if they would like DRUMATIK! To take part in their event. I am pleased to say that all my efforts have paid off as we have been asked to perform at events in Aberdour, Burntisland, Falkland Palace, Kirkintilloch, Cairneyhill, Edinburgh and the Isle of Bute! Everyone in the group is very excited about the busy summer we are going to have.

We are also planning to make DRUMATIK! A fully constituted group, with office bearers and a membership scheme. Once we are constituted, we can then tap into different funding and grants, which through time will make DRUMATIK! Self funding and financially independent.

I feel that this is a very exciting and positive time for DRUMATIK! The group members all tell me that they are getting so much from the group, but above all they are having FUN. The smiles, laughs and happy atmosphere that somehow magically happens every Wednesday at Tower House will, I’m sure continue to happen at, and get even better at SUB STATION in Rosyth.

DRUMATIK! Now have an e-mail address…drumatikdrumgroup@hotmail.co.uk. We are also having posters, flyers and t-shirts made for us. The money that we are receiving from playing at festivals and civic week events this summer will cover the cost of this. Watch this space for more DRUMATIK! News in the future.
