Frequently Asked Questions Service Users. What is being implemented?

Following a successful partnership with service users, carers and staff last year, Social Work Services along with key partners, are taking forward plans to modernise day services for adults in Fife.

Feedback from the consultation and engagement process with service users and families underpins the approach being taken. Out of the 350 questionnaires returned:-

  • 80% supported the principles underpinning day services for the future,
  • 63% supported the integration of day services and local access for people with learning and/or physical day support needs rather than provide separate services
  • 70% supported day services and employment services being more closely linked.

Will service users and families be involved in the implementation of the programme?

Yes, the programme is based on a full partnership with service users, families and carers as well as staff . There has been wide and in depth consultation over the last year and a half with service users, families, carers and voluntary organisations which has shaped the strategy and the practicalities around creating a modern, flexible and sustainable service now and in the future.

How will service users, families and carers be kept informed of the work of the Implementation and Sub Groups?

A regular newsletter is being produced to keep all service users, families and carers up to date with progress. They will also continue to be represented on the sub groups. We will also hold face to face meetings in each of the locations and any other contact over and above with Unit Managers and senior managers contactable for queries/comments.

How long will the process take?

We are working on a two year period for full implementation and a third year for review. There will be a staged development and introduction of a modernised service according to locality.

June to December 2011 - Viewforth and St. Clair (Central Fife) October 2011 – April 2012 - Dalgairn and Summit Group (North East Fife) January 2012 – July 2012 – Robert Gough and Forward Centre (East Fife) April 2012 – October 2012 – WFCSS and The Grange (West Fife)

On what basis was this decision made?

To maintain and continue to ensure a stable, sustainable and relevant service that meets the needs of service users now and in the future.

The service needs to be flexible. We have a long established relationship within community networks. For example we work with all colleges across Fife, community education, voluntary organisations and we will actively work to enhance and extend these partnerships – always with the person at the centre.

How will my needs be met?

The service will be designed to be flexible and responsive and individualised to your particular needs. To achieve this we will support people in their chosen community activities throughout the day, evening and weekends as chosen by them and their families.

We will ensure through taking a personalised and person centred approach that we listen and work with individuals aiming to support them in achieving their goals and aspirations for fulfilling lives no matter their age or disability.

Will the staff in my day centre change?

No. Staff will continue to work in the locality.

Will there be any redundancies?

We will be making sure we have a workforce that is flexible and day services that are fit for the future. This will mean making sure we have the right level of managers and staff in place to make sure service users are safe.

Will parents and families be involved in developing the service?

Yes. This will continue through the representation on the sub groups to have an opportunity to input and review as we go along.

Who can service users, families or carers contact if they want more information?

They should contact their local Day Service Manager directly and they will be able to help. The Project Manager, Ian Wilson is also available for support.

Will I be able to access independent advocacy?

Yes. People First ( Fife) Independent Collective Self Advocacy can support people to speak up and make their views known.
