Day Services for Adults With Disabilities in Fife

Valuing People

What are Day Services?

As part of the Social Work Service, Day Services are available in 7 Day Centres throughout Fife. Services are normally provided from Monday to Friday each week.

Day Centres play an important role in many people's lives, as part of a group of services helping people to live as independently as possible within their community.

Five of our Day Centres provide services for adults with learning disabilities and three Day Centres provide services for adults with physical and sensory disabilities. Some Centres also provide local outreach services.

All of our Day Centres have the same commitment to valuing the people who use our services by:

  • Providing a range of activities and opportunities which are developed in response to the needs of individuals and groups who use our Centres
  • Supporting people in their right to self determination
  • Promoting dignity and respect in all of our work
  • Consulting people about the ways in which their Centres could be developed
  • Always working in a person centred way
  • Employing dedicated and experienced staff

What Happens in a Day Centre?

All of our Day Centres provide a wide range of individual and group activities/opportunities. These are supported by experienced staff teams.

Each Centre has its own set of activities, based on the needs of the people who go there. So whichever Centre you attend, you will have your own programme. This programme will be designed so that you can take part in the Centre activities tailored to suit your needs.

You can buy your lunch and refreshments at the Centre.

What are Our Aims?

Our Day Centres will promote:

  • equal opportunities in all respects of Centre activities
  • less dependence through monitored skills development programmes
  • self and group advocacy, helping people to speak up and have their views heard
  • the use of services and facilities in local communities
  • the aim of helping people to take control of their own lives and affairs
  • partnerships through consulting and working with people who use our Centres

Our Day Centres will also provide:

  • encouragement and help for people as and when they want it
  • physical and personal care support when people need it
  • immediate support if there is a personal crisis
  • flexible responsive programmes to meet your needs, which may include:
    • Outreach Services
A service managed by a Day Centre, provided in a different local area.
    • Supported work placements.
    • Other social and recreational opportunities.

Want to Find out More?

If you feel that Day Services may be suitable for you or for someone you know, contact your local Social Work Office on one of the numbers below and ask for our Enquiry and Information Team.

They will discuss your needs with you and other relevant people, and gather some information to help decide whether or not you qualify for a Day Service. They will then arrange to visit you to carry out a full examination of your needs, called an assessment. This will determine whether a Day Service is the best way to meet some of your needs. If this is the case, your Social Worker will then make an approach to the appropriate Day Centre in your area. This approach however, does not guarantee a place.

If you would like to find our more about any Day Centre in your area, you can contact them directly. A list of all Day Centres is included in this leaflet.
