Quest Theatre: About Us

Equality is one our most popular previews. This video clip was filmed during rehearsals at the Rothes Halls, Glenrothes.

The lyrics aspire to a world of respect, personal liberty, inclusiveness and equal rights, particularly poignant issues for individuals who have often been victims of prejduice and abuse.

In Search of Equality

Quest Theatre Company, based at the St. Clair Centre in Kirkcaldy, has been operating since 1996.

Their highly acclaimed show "The Bus Stop" has been performed in over 60 schools throughout Fife to some 6,000 children.

"The Bus Stop" consists of several short pieces depicting the hopes, aspirations and some of the difficulties faced by people with disabilities.

They have also performed in Theatres, Community Centres, Festivals, Town Halls and Colleges all over Fife to an estimated 5000 adults.

Further afield, they have performed at the Glasgow City Chambers after receiving a joint award from S.T.V. and the Community Education Council as part of the European Year of Life Long Learning.

In November 1998, the group travelled to Holland. This invitation came about because of the close links built up between the Lynebank Discharge Programme and the Quest Theatre Company.

In Holland the group took their show to a Sixth Form College, a large Carers Forum and a Teachers Training College. They completed the tour by performing in the impressive marble building that also witnessed the signing of the Maastrict Treaty.

In 2002 the group were invited to Aberdeen where they helped launch an anti-bullying campaign. The organisers also hoped that the performance by the group would provide the inspiration for the setting up of a similar group in the Aberdeen area.

In 2005, the group returned to Glasgow and performed to over 700 people at a National Conference in Glasgow.

Since then they have been working on a video production of their work and continueing to perform in shools. They also contributed to a St Clair Centre multi media project called the Time machine (2007)

They are also planning a special performance to help a  citizens advocacy steering group consider some of the issues faced by people with disabilities.

The overall aim of Quest is to contribute to a society where everyone is treated equally. More specifically, it is to educate, entertain and to promote a positive image for people with learning disability.

Judging by the feedback we get from hundreds of letters and questionnaires sent to us from schools, the message is getting through. Two typical comments are: -

'Thank you for inviting us to your marvellous show. Now I know how it feels to be bullied like that. Your play was brilliant'. (Nicola - Carleton Primary)

'I enjoyed the show and think you are very good. I hope you get to be famous and encourage other people to do things like you'. (Andrew - Dalgety Bay Primary)

The sixes and sevens all appreciate you coming. It was a magnificent play.

(Thomas - Lynburn Primary)
