If you feel that this Service may be of benefit to you, then you or your relative or friend, should:

  • Contact your nearest Social Work/Locality Office in the Fife area.
  • This ensures that appropriate information is obtained prior to you being referred to a Community Care Social Worker.
  • The Social Worker will, along with you/family/friend undertakes a Single Shared Assessment.
  • This assessment will identify your needs and determine whether a referral is made to the Brain Injury Team.

Criteria for Acceptance

  • Referrals can only be accepted subject to a Social Workerís completed Single Shared Assessment.
  • Adults who have sustained mild/moderate effects following a traumatic brain injury, e.g. RTA, blow to head, fall etc.
  • Have been assessed as medically stable and thus able to undertake a rehabilitation or individual programme.
  • Absence of substance misuse.
  • Individuals should be willing to co-operate with identified programmes.

Fife Rehabilitation Service:
Fife Health Care NHS Trust, Cameron Hospital
Provides assessment and rehabilitation to those with physical disability primarily in the 16-64 age group. It is a consultant led service with all major disciplines represented including physiotherapy, occupational therapy, speech and language therapy, dietician, clinical psychology and nursing staff, including an outreach nurse for brain injury services. Scottish Brain Injury Rehabilitation Service:
Astley Ainslie Hospital, Edinburgh
NHS Trust that provides intensive rehabilitation for head injured and brain injured individuals. This includes looking at psychological and cognitive skills, general health and mobility skills. All programmes are individually tailored. Support, counselling and extensive follow up into the community is available. Consultant Neurologist

Fife Institute of Physical and Recreational Education: Provide a referral session for individuals who are recovering from injury or illness to allow those individuals to attend fitness and/or swimming classes. A member of physical education staff is present at most sessions. Transport may be available.
