Other Activities
The lounge is the main social area in the Centre which is fitted out with a loop system.
This is where the members tend to meet and catch up with friends and staff. The Snack Bar is located here and sells a range of crisps, confectionery and lemonade and is open throughout the day if required.
The Lounge is ideal as it can accommodate larger group activities which include themed fun days, e.g. Going back to the 60s, St. Patrick's Day. Fun days are open to all Centre members/carers. Karaoke sessions, where both staff and members take part, and music and movement which lends itself to gentle exercise, are also popular activities. For those not inclined to exercise there are TV, video and music facilities available.
The public phone is also located in this area but facilities are available for making private phone calls.
Although the Centre does not provide a cooked meal, assistance is given to purchase hot/cold filled rolls. Members can also bring in ready made meals that can be heated up in the microwave. (Ready made meals can also be purchased from the Centre snackbar).
Although the main purpose of the Centre is to support people to experience a wide range of activities/opportunities, Centre members are very committed to fundraising for both the Centre and other deserving causes.
Recent fundraiser events, initiated by a Centre member with staff support, successfully raised £1,060.00 for a local children's hospice unit, and over £600 for the MacMillan Nurses (cancer care charity).
