The Summit Group offers a day service to people with physical or learning difficulties aged between 18 and 65. We are open between 9:30 am and 3:00 pm Monday to Friday.

Aims

It's what you want that counts!

The main purpose of the group is as follows:

    • To be aware of and recognise the needs of individuals.
    • To treat all members with due consideration and respect.
    • To provide information, advice and support.
    • To promote personal independence for service users.
    • To facilitate and develop service users' individual interests.
    • To provide practical assistance in attending to people's needs.
    • To ensure that good health and safety practices are adhered to at all times.

Opportunities

The Group is user led. The users are representatives on a management committee that meets on a monthly basis with the senior staff and line manager. Problems are dealt with, if there are any, and new ideas or suggestions are discussed. We welcome any new ideas and will try to fulfil them. Requests from potential new members are considered. If a place is available, a trial placement of four weeks is offered after which people should know if the Summit Group is for them.

There are many activities on offer at the Summit Group. However, the most important part for many members is simply getting out of the house, making new friends and chatting and being part of the community again.

Activities available include pottery, painting, many different types of sewing such as cross stitch, embroidery, tapestry, quilting by hand or on the sewing machines and picture framing. A computer is available and we organise outings to the shops, ten pin bowling and sometimes just go out for a drive in the summer months. However, should you wish to simply sit watching the world go by that's fine. You do what you want and when you want, providing the request is reasonable and meets the guidelines set by the centre.
