We recognise the valued role that active employment plays in the everyday lives of individuals, enhancing their self-esteem, self-worth and feeling of being part of, contributing to, and not being excluded from the community.
Dalgairn is aware that the opportunity for employment needs to be increased and has therefore established a more focused staff member concentrating specifically on this area.
We will support a wide variety of opportunities for people which include paid employment, but also the chance to undertake work placements on a time limited basis to see if it is suitable, voluntary work, seasonal work and part time work.
An initial referral can be made by either a keyworker or the individual themself. We would then arrange a interview with the person concerned and compile a personal profile, identifying skills, interests, personal qualities, qualifications and experience, showing a more in-depth picture of the individual and their values.
We would then network with local employers, job bulletins, adverts, and job centres. We would also use our strong links with the Fife Employability Team who are based in Glenrothes and who have a wealth of information and expertise on employment issues and securing employment opportunities.
Once we or Fife Employability Team had established a suitable opening with a prospective employer a visit would be arranged between the individual and the employer, with support from Dalgairn or Employability staff (if required).
At this stage an invitation for a formal interview or a direct offer of employment will be given. If employment is successfully gained then a benefit’s check would be carried out to ensure no financial difficulties arise as a result of employment. Bearing in mind that in some instances work will be on a voluntary or placement basis therefore no payment will be involved and checks unnecessary.
Prior to start date a work agreement between the employer, the centre or Employability Team and the individual will be completed. This will be the case for paid and unpaid posts. This will outline the support that will be provided on an ongoing basis. It will also give a clear picture of the role expected of the individual within the working environment. In addition the employer agrees to the terms of employment taking into consideration Health & Safety regulations, working hours and rate of pay, where relevant.
Continuing support is given to the individual in work and to the employer throughout the length of the contract. This will be via a regular review of the situation. However, If an individual is experiencing particular difficulties or wishes to consider changing their job, support will be provided as required.
If you are considering employment of any kind and feel we may be able to help please do not hesitate to contact us.
