How to add a blog entry(*)

If you haven't visited this site in a while, apart from the celestial background and some old recycled content, it's all change.

The new site is driven by Drupal and allows anyone with basic computer skills and a valid user name and password to log on, participate in a forum, add comments, edit a blog and, with special privileges, edit pages. Only authorised users can view and add comments. If you require a log on please contact Chris Morris at Chris.Morris@fife.gov.uk . One person per service unit will be nominated to manage user accounts for their area.

You can also add images and upload audio and video files and we're working on options for integration with other Web services such as Facebook, FlickR, Google Docs or SlideShare via existing Drupal modules. This could enable the integration of much richer content.

  1. More user-friendly editing
  2. Easier to upload images. The system now supports very large JPEG images.
  3. All registered users can view and add comments. Comments will not be accessible to unregistered users.
  4. All service units have a blog section.
  5. Text can now be imported from uploaded Word documents or copied and pasted as before.
  6. Audio and video files can accompany a page or blog post.
  7. New user-friendly forum accessible only to staff.

How to Add a Blog

  1. Expand the My Account menu in the left sidebar and select New Entry.
  2. Add a title, not too long and not too short.
  3. Type your blog entry or copy and paste it from from another programme. If copying from Word be sure to use the Paste From Word facility to remove artefacts that may yield undesirable results.
  4. Proof-read your blog, post-edit and spell-check the blog. Note the presence of a spell-checker icon.
  5. Keep formatting simple. Note the icons above let you highlight text as bold or italics, generate bulleted and numbered lists, add subheadings and even insert smileys
  6. Optionally Expand the Insert Images section below and either pick an existing image or upload a new one.
  7. To insert an image, choose a size, alignment and link options (thumbnail, float right, lightbox are defaults) and it will appear where your cursor was previously in the rich text editor. Large images taken with modern digital cameras will be made available in several sizes. There is no need to resize the image before uploading. Make sure images are in jpeg, png or gif format.
  8. Optionally add other media such as PDFs (ideal for brochures, glossy newsletters etc.), mp3 audio or mp4 video files. Note video files are very large and will take a while to upload.
  9. Check some of the other options, e.g. do you want to allow other registered users to add comments.
  10. Hit save below.
