Art With a Passion: Art Steps

Art Steps was an exciting pilot which aims to develop a professional and creative studio space for artists with a range of needs.

The first project was intended for people who have had years of art experience, often at day centres and were then ready for the next step. It took place in February and March of 2002 at the Lochgelly Centre. This gave the artists the opportunity to work in a studio environment with support from artists from ProjectAbility in Glasgow. Everyone had a chance to work on a variety of different supjects including still life and models. There was a range of quality materials giving the artists flexability and choice.

In 2004 another Art Steps took place at the Media Space at Lauder College in Dunfermline. Many of the original participants where invited. Sharon Quigley joined us again to facilitate. Using the mobile printing press from Dunfermline Printmakers Workshop, many interesting prints where created. Donald Farren’s print went on to win a prize at the Fife Exhibition at Kirkcaldy Museum and Gallery. It is now part of the Shell Art Collection.

Art Steps has now become a way of working with people who are passionate about art and is looking at ways to support individual artists to work in a studio environment.
